  1. John C. Goodman

    Advisory Council Member
    John C. Goodman is the President of the Goodman Institute for Public Policy Research, and author of the widely acclaimed, new Independent book, A Better Choice: Healthcare Solutions for America, and the award-winning Independent book, Priceless: Curing the Healthcare Crisis. The Wall Street Journal and the National Journal, among other media, have called him the “Father of Health Savings Accounts.”
  2. Ralph Fucetola

    Ralph Fucetola received a Juris Doctor from Rutgers Law School, 1971. Since then he has been active in the business and public service communities and practiced law (from 1971 through 2006) specializing in the Nutrient and Alternative Health fields. Counsel Fucetola has been widely recognized as a leading attorney in the field, receiving numerous awards, including a Citation of Merit from the National Health Federation in 1979 and a Meritorious Service Award (from the Institute for Health Research) for his role in the 1995 DHEA Cases on behalf of the Life Extension Foundation. He currently is principal of the Vitamin Lawyer Consultancy, advising companies on compliance with regulations including those issued by the Food and Drug Administration and Federal Trade Commission.
  3. Earl L. Grinols

    Dr. Grinols holds a PhD from MIT and two summa cum laude undergraduate degrees from the University of Minnesota. He joined the Baylor faculty in 2004. He has previously taught at Cornell University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois. He also worked as a research economist for the Department of the Treasury and as senior economist for the Council of Economic Advisors. His recent research in public finance and public policy includes the economics of national health care, theory of entitlement reform, non-governmental approaches to the poor, and the effect of casino gambling in the United States. Dr. Grinols has authored several books including Healthcare for Us All: Getting More for Our Investment (2009) and Gambling in America: Costs and Benefits (2004), both published by Cambridge University Press. He has testified before Congress and numerous statehouses from Maine to Hawaii. His work has been cited by leading news outlets such as the Economist, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, U.S. News and World Report, and others.
  4. Michael Johns

    Michael Johns has served in executive-level positions with the diagnostic imaging, medical device, health services and pharmaceutical sectors of the health care industry. He also is one of several national founders of the U.S. Tea Party movement and has served as a speechwriter to President George H. W. Bush, a senior aide to former New Jersey Governor Tom Kean (R-NJ), and an aide to U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME). Michael began his career as an editor of the Heritage Foundation's scholarly magazine, Policy Review. Michael has written for The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, and other national media, and has appeared on CBS News, PBS, Fox Morning News, and other networks. Michael graduated in economics at the University of Miami.
  5. Pete Kennedy

    Pete Kennedy is an attorney in Sarasota, Florida and serves as president of the Famer-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund. He has assisted and/or represented dairy farmers facing possible enforcement action in various states as well as helping others to get started in the business of distributing raw dairy products. Pete has worked on dairy issues for the Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF), particularly, the right of farmers to distribute raw dairy products direct to consumers. He compiled the state raw milk law summaries posted at www.realmilk.com and has since written articles for Wise Traditions Magazine, Acres U.S.A. and Mother Earth News. He is currently working with others to lift the federal ban on the interstate shipment of raw milk for human consumption. Pete has also counseled on a variety of issues including the right to farm, on-farm poultry and meat processing, herdshares, buying club operations, and legislation at both federal and state level.
  6. Sean Parnell

    Sean Parnell is a public policy consultant with more than a decade of senior leadership experience in political campaigns, nonprofit organizations, and public policy advocacy. Parnell has done extensive work on health care, both at the policy and consumer levels. He is the author of The Self-Pay Patient: Affordable Healthcare Choices in the Age of Obamacare and runs the blog The Self-Pay Patient, and also serves as adjunct scholar on health policy for the Rhode Island Center for Freedom & Prosperity. He was vice-president of external affairs at The Heartland Institute, and president at The Center for Competitive Politics. Since 2011 he has run his own consulting firm, Impact Policy Management LLC. ​
  7. Dan Perrin

    Dan Perrin is a former U.S. Committee on Foreign Relations staff member where he served for more than seven years, as well as staff to the U.S. Senate Steering Committee. Mr. Perrin was the founder and editor-in-chief of the website HSA Insider, and sole contributor to its content until it was sold. While he was running the site, it was the number one website in the world on Health Savings Accounts. Mr. Perrin has been quoted in virtually every major daily newspaper in the United States including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the LA Times, the Miami Herald, and in newsmagazines like TIME. Mr. Perrin is also the author of HSA Road Rules, considered by bankers and insurers to be the “bible” of the HSA industry - more than 45,000 copies have been downloaded.
  8. Pam Popper

    Pam Popper, Ph.D., is a naturopath and Executive Director of The Wellness Forum, which assists employers in reducing health costs and educates health care professionals about how to use diet and lifestyle to combat degenerative disease. Dr. Popper serves on the Physician’s Steering Committee and the President’s Board for the Physicians’ Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington D.C. Dr. Popper is part of Dr. T. Colin Campbell’s teaching team at eCornell, teaching part of a certification course on plant-based nutrition. She has been featured in many widely distributed documentaries and appeared in the film, Forks Over Knives, which played in major theaters in 2011. She is one of the co-authors of the companion book which was on the New York Times bestseller list for 66 weeks. Her most recent book is Food Over Medicine: The Conversation That Can Save Your Life. She has testified in front of legislative committees on numerous occasions, and has testified twice in front of the USDA’s Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.
  9. Dave Racer

    Dave Racer is the President of DGRCommunications, Inc., providing research, writing, publishing, and communication services for a diverse group of individual and corporate clients. Mr. Racer as the Legislative Committee Research Director for the Minnesota Association of Health Underwriters. Dave is a Board Member of the Minnesota Physician-Patient Alliance and has written and presented more than 12 original Continuing Education healthcare finance courses. With a Master of Letters (MLitt) Degree from Oxford, Dave is founder and CEO of Alethos Press, a book publisher; of his 48 books, 18 focus on health care and health finance issues. Mr. Racer is the Founding President of the Declaration Foundation, and past President and Chairman of the Board of the Constitution Educational Foundation. Mr. Racer was National Campaign Manager for Alan Keyes' 1996 presidential campaign and is a Vietnam-era veteran of the United States Air Force.
  10. Katherine Restrepo

    Katherine Restrepo is the health and human services policy analyst at the John Locke Foundation, a free-market think tank located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her work involves a variety of mediums, including radio, statewide news channels, newsletters, policy reports, and keynote speaking engagements. After graduating from McDaniel College with a BA in Political Science and Spanish, she first developed an interest in consumer-driven health care while interning for Michael Cannon, director of healthy policy studies at the Cato Institute. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in health care administration at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health.
  11. Keith Smith

    Dr. G. Keith Smith is a board certified anesthesiologist in private practice since 1990. In 1997, he co-founded The Surgery Center of Oklahoma, and in 2009 launched a website displaying all-inclusive pricing for various surgical procedures, a move that has gained him and the facility, national and even international attention. Many Canadians and uninsured Americans have been treated at his facility, taking advantage of the low and transparent pricing available. Operation of this free market medical practice, arguably the only one of its kind in the U.S., has gained the endorsement of policymakers and legislators nationally. More and more self-funded insurance plans are taking advantage of Dr. Smith’s pricing model resulting in significant savings to their employee health plans. Dr. Smith’s latest effort, the Free Market Medical Association, provides a platform where those seeking to obtain high quality and affordable health care can find free market-minded providers, both physicians and facilities.   12. Jeffrey A. Singer

    Jeffrey A. Singer is a general surgeon in private practice in Phoenix, AZ. He is principal and founder of Valley Surgical Clinics, Ltd., the largest and oldest group private surgical practice in Arizona. He was integrally involved in the creation and passage of the Arizona Health Care Freedom Act, and serves as treasurer of the US Health Freedom Coalition, which promotes state constitutional protections of freedom of choice in health care decisions. He is a regular contributor to Arizona Medicine, the journal of the Arizona Medical Association. He writes and speaks extensively on regional and national public policy, with a specific focus on the areas of health care policy and the harmful effects of drug prohibition. He received his B.A. from Brooklyn College (CUNY) and his M.D. from New York Medical College. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute.
  13. William Martin Sloane

    William Martin Sloane is a former Democratic Chief Counsel to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives who now serves on the Judicial Committee of the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania. An attorney in Maryland and Pennsylvania (Of Counsel to The Shagin Law Group LLC), Dr. Sloane chairs the American College of Counselors and is president of the Council on Chiropractic Practice, vice president of the American Association of Integrative Medicine, advisory board member and past chair of the American Board of Forensic Counselors, scientific board of advisors member of Integrative Outcome Measurement Wellness, and International Scientific College member of the International Academy of Sciences San Marino. He is a graduate of York College of Pennsylvania [B.A.], Atlantic University [M.A.], Liberty University [M.A.R.], Universidad Centroamericana de las Ciencias [M.B.A.], Widener University [J.D.], Temple University [LL.M. (Labor)], and American Christian College and Seminary [Ph.D.] and board certified in professional counseling (ABPC) and clinical supervision (ACC). Dr. Sloane has taught part-time at Atlantic University, Elizabethtown College, Millersville University, Mount Saint Mary's University, Saint Francis University, Shippensburg University, Temple University, Widener University School of Law, and Wilson College. His latest book is Certified Forensic Consultant, CFC® (ACFEI, 2014–forthcoming).
  14. Scott Tips

    Scott Tips is the President and General Counsel for the National Health Federation, the World's oldest health-freedom organization, as well as the Editor In Chief of its magazine, Health Freedom News. Mr. Tips writes also a monthly column for Whole Foods Magazine called "Legal Tips" and is the author of Codex Alimentarius - Global Food Imperialism, regarding that international body's attempts to limit health and food freedom. As a California attorney Mr. Tips specializes in food-and-drug law and trademark law, but also engages in business litigation, general business law, and nonprofit organizations, with an international clientele. Scott has a JD from Berkeley.
  15. Ralph Weber

    Ralph Weber is a leading healthcare policy consultant who has been called on by presidential candidates and the largest employers for his expertise in custom designing health plans which significantly reduce costs. Weber is the author of the book “MediCrats: Medical Bureaucrats that Rule your Health Care,” (foreword by John Goodman) which shows how red tape is taking control of health care. Ralph and a group of private investors founded MediBid, which allows patients to shop for medical care across state lines and international borders, with full transparency. It is a truly free market solution to healthcare. Ralph has been interviewed frequently on radio, TV and blogs, and has testified before the Florida House of Representatives to discuss initiatives to reduce costs for their 173,000 state employees. In 1996 he started an international health insurance brokerage, Route Three Benefits, Inc. Mr. Weber has earned 6 professional designations: Registered Employee Benefit Consultant (REBC), Group Benefits Associate (GBA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), and Accredited Estate Planner (AEP). Ralph is a member of the Million Dollar Round Table, the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils, and Mensa.
  16. Donald Miller

    Donald Miller is an emeritus professor of surgery and former Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine. After attending Dartmouth and Harvard (M.D.) and then undergoing his surgical training at three hospitals affiliated with Columbia University, he joined the surgical faculty at the University of Washington in Seattle in 1975. In addition to performing and teaching heart surgery for 40 years, recently retired, Dr. Miller has written a number of important articles on health care, notably On Evidence: Medical and Legal (with an attorney), exposing the faults of evidence-based medicine, and most recently, Modern Medicine at the Crossroads, supporting a free market approach to health care.
  17. Beverly Gossage

    Beverly Gossage is the President of HSA Benefits Consulting and past President and Legislative Chair of the Greater Kansas City Association of Health Underwriters. As a licensed agent in nearly half the states, Beverly has provided valuable in-the-field information to health care policy advisers and legislators. She is considered to have written the first full replacement, group Medical Savings Account policy in the nation. The Institute of Healthcare Consumerism declared Beverly a 2013 Superstar for her role in pioneering Health Savings Accounts and promoting consumer driven health care.   18. Jeff Kanter

    Jeff Kanter, a Syracuse University graduate, has spent the last twenty five years assisting individuals and businesses navigate the world of health insurance and wealth development. Concurrently, he has pursued public policy by being active in the Libertarian Party and freedom community since in 1988. In that capacity, he served in a number of positions from organizing petition drives, Regional Chair, Gubernatorial fundraiser, to managing the Libertarian Presidential campaign of Irwin Schiff in 1996 (Harry Browne got the nod). Still active today, he saw an opportunity to put libertarian ideals into action with the inception of the Affordable Care Act.
