December, 2014 - Our America Initiative urges its Georgia supporters to email their state representatives and senators in support of SB 7 and SRes 6, legislation by Senator Thompson, respectively, to allow doctor prescription of medical marijuana and to call a ballot initiative to legalize and tax marijuana. These bills stem from joint study committee hearings held on the future of marijuana prohibition, drug reform and medical access. According to a recent poll on Georgians' view of the drug war, most no longer support marijuana prohibition, yet in 2010 over 30,000 Georgians suffered arrest for use of the plant. Said a spokesperson in the above link from Georgia's chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, "This is not about getting high, this is about protecting sick people and everyone else from arrest using a harm reduction strategy with public safety as a top priority.” For more information on Georgia drug reform, please go to the GA CARE Project, an organization dedicated to marijuana education, access, and law reform in the state of Georgia. Your donation now and input from our Advisory Councilson Civil Liberties and Drug Reform could help us roll back the Drug War through more of our fifty state affiliates. Nationally, Our America Initiative would appreciate your signing our petition to end marijuana prohibition.
December, 2014 - Our America Initiative supports a petition to abolish the six percent state income tax, hosted by Georgians for Fair Taxation. We need all our supporters in the Peach state to sign this petition, to show the legislature that grassroots pressure exists to do away with income taxation as a way to raise revenue for government expenses. With business booming next door in Tennessee and Florida because they exempt income from taxation, Georgia needs to tighten its belt and operate without this job-killing tax. Eight other states don't tax income and thrive economically as a result. An efficient state government easily could operate relying solely on revenue from other sources, such as sales or property taxation. Our America Initiative has a national project on taxation too, encouraging signing of a petition to abolish the Internal Revenue Service, currently the object of investigations for discriminatory audits of groups with whose politics some at the IRS disagree. With your donation now and the advice of our Advisory Councils on Economic Growth and Over Regulation, we will have the resources to advocate less taxation through more of our fifty state affiliates.
