October 2014 - Our America Initiative endorses a "yes" vote on Amendment Q to expand gaming options in state and reservation casinos to include roulette, craps and keno. Despite being available in 47 other states, South Dakota gaming options still haven’t changed in 25 years. As with any other enterprise, South Dakota gaming centers need to diversify and meet customer demands in order to compete with other states. Amendment Q will enhance the quality of the gaming experience, boost tourism and generate more revenue. With your donation now and input from Our America Initiative's Advisory Council, we can reduce gaming prohibitions through more of our fifty state affiliates. (Editor's note: On November 4th this ballot initiative passed).
October 2014 - Our America Initiative endorses a "no" vote on Initiated Measure 18 to stop another ‘forever’ government mandate that hikes the minimum wage by 17% this year, creating one of the highest minimum wages in the nation, and includes an annual increase regardless of South Dakota’s future economic condition. While the measure may be intended to help the working poor, such a drastic mandate will hurt most those in which it sets out to help. Young and unskilled workers new to the work force will lose opportunities and workers across the board may lose hours and benefits. Additionally, this mandate will cause prices to go up on common essentials such as food and clothing and further burden the working poor. With your donation now and input from Our America Initiative's Advisory Council on Economic Growth and OverRegulation, we can promote policies that help entrepreneurs create jobs through more of our fifty state affiliates.
